Conclusion

If you are a techie or have any interest in the next big thing, you owe it to yourself to buy the Quest. Amazing technology that brings VR forward more than any other VR effort before. Navigating the OS and watching movies and playing games…the last time I had this feeling of wow was the first time I used the original iPhone. It’s that amazing and like the original iPhone, there is a lot of obvious improvements to take it to the next next level.

Pros

• Wireless and no PC takes usability and portability to an entirely new class

Cons

• Comfort is the biggest con due to front-heavy design and straps not having any padding

• Screen refresh needs to be improved in future updates

• Battery life is ok, but improvement would be greatly appreciated

Additional Thoughts

Pure graphical performance is never the endgame. Nintendo has proved that over and over and especially with the Switch. Game design and engaging and immersive gameplay will always trump pure graphics. For once, I’m thankful for Facebook. In this regard, only because they have the money to support the Oculus and the broader VR industry in general. With this pandemic and the Quest, VR just may get over the perennial niche its always been locked within.
